Berlin, Köpenick Castle, ceiling stucco work by Giovanni Simonetti (Roveredo, GR)
During the time of the GDR, large fragments of stucco were removed prior to the
destruction of the ancient castle. Following decades of inappropriate storage, these
fragments of ceiling were loaned to the Kunstgewerbemuseum at Köpenick Castle in Berlin
and put on display. We were commissioned to examine, clean and conserve the artefact.
We assembled the fragments and transferred them to a new, stable structure. The stucco
on the new structure was mounted on the ceiling by means of a suspended installation.
The e 5,3 m2 fragment of stucco is currently on display in the museum.
